Chelsea vs Watford – Match Preview
Just when Chelsea were provided the perfect opportunity in which to move up to third place in the Premier League table, they hit a fork in the road and a fork that saw them suffer a late defeat to West Ham on Wednesday night.
Going into this weekend, that defeat sees Chelsea stay in fourth place and when you consider that both Manchester United and Wolves are breathing down their necks, there is a sense of potential opportunity missed for the Blues.
That’s because Leicester’s misfortune earlier that evening, gave Frank Lampard’s men the ideal opportunity to move up to third place in the table and leave the Foxes scrabbling for the last Champions League place on offer.
However, the Premier League can be a strange beast at times and with Chelsea suffering defeat to local rivals West Ham, the race for both third and fourth place at the end of the season has been blown wide open.
Thankfully for the West London outfit, the current Premier League fixture schedule is an incredibly congested one and this means, they now have the chance to put right their wrongs in double quick time.
Providing the opposition to Stamford Bridge this Saturday are Watford and with West Ham now leaping above them in the table, Nigel Pearson’s men are looking even more nervously over their shoulders.
That’s because the Hornets are just on the right side of dotted relegation line and it is more their rivals’ refusal to score points for themselves, rather than their own personal efforts, which is keeping them out of the bottom three.
Since the restart, Watford have only managed to pick up a single point from the nine that have been on offer and although they picked up a hard-earned draw against Leicester in their first runout of this phase, they have since lost to both Burnley and Southampton.
The lack of points has not matched the bookmaker’s confidence in Watford during the past two weeks and although they were favourites against both Burnley and Southampton, they were worse off each time.
While regarding Chelsea, their midweek faith was certainly misplaced, as even though they were on the road, they were heavy favourites to get the better of West Ham and that is a tag that they have worn in each of their three restart phase matches.
Therefore it comes as no surprise that the Blues are once again tipped for victory this weekend and they will be looking to repeat their efforts of earlier in the season, as when they previously met at Vicarage Road, Chelsea ran out 2-1 winners.
While for Watford, although a point would certainly help their survival cause, they are at a stage in the season where really only three will do and for that to be the case, it may need something of an upset this weekend.
The people in charge of compiling the odds are certainly no slouches and this is highlighted in Chelsea’s odds of -227. However, if you are looking for a home banker coupon over the next few days, this should be one of the highly recommend picks.
